Welcome to my new email newsletter.
If you’re getting this email, it’s because you were previously subscribed to my WatzThis, Inc newsletter, which was titled “The Abecedarian”. If you’d no longer like to be on my mailing list, please click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of this email.
Substack seems to be the place where people are blogging these days, and the interface is easier to work with, so I’ve migrated off of my old mail system. My emails will continue to be free to anyone who signs up for them, and they’re also posted on my website (www.chrisminnick.com) and at https://chrisminnick.substack.com.
Passing the Torch of My Online Classes
In 2014, Eva Holland and I started writing a 6-week course for Ed2Go (part of Cengage Learning) about mobile web apps. In 2016, we also took on responsibility for managing and updating a course about SEO that had originally been written by someone else. I’m really proud of the courses we created, and thousands of students have taken them over the years. For the first couple years of the course, Eva and I co-taught it, then I taught it by myself for several years, and for the last couple years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a former student, Richard Hain, as my assistant instructor.
But just as technical books become out of date after a while and need to be revised or retired, online classes also become dated and need fixing. For the last year, I’ve been busy with book writing books and teaching live online classes and Richard has been awesome with fixing issues as technologies change. However, I don’t have the time to dedicate to a complete rewrite of the courses that they’re both in need of.
So, I’ve decided to hand over my Ed2Go courses to a new instructor who will be able to give them the care they need while freeing me up to focus on writing more books and learning about new topics to teach. That change will take effect after the current (May 2023) class is finished.
If you’ve taken one of my Ed2Go classes, thank you! It’s been a lot of fun for me, and I’ve learned a lot from my students and co-instructors. Working with the team at Ed2Go has been great as well. I haven’t met the new instructor, but I’m sure they’ll do a great job and I wish them all the best.
Feedback and Future Plans
What do you think of my new email format? I’m planning to start writing a bit more often in the coming months (of course, I always say that, but then new projects happen). But, I’ve been thinking a lot about artificial intelligence lately, and about what it means to be a human writer, and I’m working on some posts about all that. I’m also planning to write more about learning, a little bit about coding, and a little bit about what I’m up to. Do you have any other topics you’d like me to talk about?
Thanks for reading!
