Who am I?
Hi, and thanks for visiting my substack. If you’re here, it’s likely that you already know who I am, so I’ll tell you some things you may or may not know. I love writing, learning, and teaching. Fortunately for me, today I get to do all three things every day.
I write books about computer programming and the Internet. I’ve been doing this since 1999, but I only decided to try to make a living from it in 2022. Since then, I’ve written Mastodon For Dummies, JavaScript All-in-One For Dummies, Coding All-in-One For Dummies, Beginning ReactJS Foundations, and a few smaller work-for-hire books. You can read more about how my quest to be a full-time writer is going here.
I also teach programming classes at large companies. I love teaching, and I’m always trying to find new ways to become better at it. You can read more about my quest to be a better teacher here.
I love learning new things and trying things. Some of the things I do when I’m not teaching or writing books include: writing novels, Tai Chi, Yoga, swimming, painting, playing piano or saxophone, baking bread, and winemaking. I may never be good enough at any of these things to ever do them professionally, but I’m an enthusiastic amateur. You can read more about quest to try new things here.
