Who am I?

Hi, and thanks for visiting my substack. If you’re here, it’s likely that you already know who I am, so I’ll tell you some things you may or may not know. I love writing, learning, and teaching. Fortunately for me, today (and every day) I get to do all three things.

I write books, mostly about computer programming and the Internet. I’ve been doing this since 1999, but I only decided to try to make a living from it in 2022. Since then, I’ve written Coding with AI For Dummies, Mastodon For Dummies, JavaScript All-in-One For Dummies, Coding All-in-One For Dummies, Beginning ReactJS Foundations, a few smaller work-for-hire books, and two novels.

I also teach programming classes at large companies. I love teaching, and I’m always trying to find new ways to become better at it.

I love learning new things and trying things. Some of the things I do when I’m not teaching or writing books include: writing novels, Tai Chi, Yoga, swimming, painting, learning to play guitar, baking bread, and winemaking. I may never be good enough at any of these things to ever do them professionally, but I’m an enthusiastic amateur.
